Things To Consider While Using Iron On Transfer Paper

Iron On Transfer Paper has got some great uses in the printing industry. It is generally referred to as "T-shirt paper" as well. It is because the use of this paper is to transfer texts, pictures, and combinations of it to the t-shirts. Iron on transfer paper is quite different from the other kinds of paper. It is also certain that its use is quite different as well. Iron-on transfer paper is a great way to customize your creative projects. Iron on transfer paper is typically used to make t-shirts, hats, mugs, mousepads, etc. and the process is quite simple.

This versatile product allows you to create unique designs on fabrics, leather, vinyl, and more.

To use iron-on the transfer paper you will need an iron, a standard household iron will work fine, but if you have a heat press you can use that too but it is best to use a commercial; grade iron for desired results. You will also need a transfer paper of course and whatever you are transferring to.

Transfer paper comes in several varieties, but the most common type is similar to clear contact paper, with adhesive on one side. Transfer paper is available in rolls or sheets that can be cut to size using household scissors or a craft knife.

The transfer material is embedded into the backing of the transfer paper. Other types of transfer paper are pre-coated with an adhesive that does not need heat to set.

Relatively inexpensive compared to custom embroidery or screen printing, iron-on transfer paper can be used for simple monograms and logos as well as larger-scale patterns and images.

Here are some of the things that you need to know to use Iron On Transfer Paper the right way!

Printer Ink:

The first thing that you have to keep in mind is the printer ink required. Some people believe that iron-on transfer paper requires different kinds of printers for use. An inkjet printer wouldn't be able to do the job. But the paper would work just about fine in inkjet printers as well. So you don't have to do anything special as far printer ink is concerned. You have to make sure that the printer ink is quality, which you would for normal printers as well.

Light Or Dark Transfer Paper:

The tricky thing about iron-on transfer paper is to choose the type of paper. Would light paper come out good or a dark paper would be more suitable? There are different uses for these two types of papers. As far as the light iron-on transfer paper is concerned, it will be able to provide a vibrant and accurate image. So it is the most commonly used paper especially when it is supposed to be used for t-shirts. But the dark papers have got their uses as well. You will have to choose a white background that can be transferred with the help of the ink. The idea is to block the white colour from coming through the ink. If you want to use the paper for a very common reason, you should be choosing white iron-on transfer paper.

Avoiding Common Mistakes:

There are some common mistakes that people make while printing. While it is not considered a big deal on normal papers, the thing is not the same with iron-on transfer paper. You make a common mistake and you lose an entire piece of paper which is very costly. There are times when you might have wasted the t-shirt as well and you have to start from scratch. So make sure you don't make common mistakes such as forgetting about reversing the picture, using an iron that is not hot enough, etc. You have to use a solid surface to do the job.

Washing The Garment:

You have to be good with washing the garment as it will be the basis for the success of iron-on transfer paper to be included on it. While washing, you have to turn the garment inside out. It is to make sure that the image doesn't get attacked by any part of the machine or the other garments included in it.

These are some of the common things that you have to make sure of while using iron-on transfer paper. There are some great benefits of this paper, as long as you know how to use it properly!
